The Vicki Kristina Barcelona Band grouped with their instruments in front of a black background

Vicki Kristina Barcelona visits OSH for a free outdoor concert sponsored by the Saghir Lewis team at Halstead Real Estate.

VickiKristinaBarcelona is Rachelle Garniez, Amanda Homi and Terry Radigan, a power trio of seasoned music veterans dedicated to re-imagining the songs of Tom Waits via inventive three-part harmonies and a treasure trove of instruments including banjos, bottles, squeezebox, and zills.  They create a world of sound at once powerful, playful and poignant.

Seasoned singers and songwriters, each a hybrid story-teller and multi-instrumentalist in her own right, join forces to salute the tragicomic lyrical genius of the Waits songbook. Picture the Triplets of Belleville disguised as Depression Era hobos riding the rails across America stopping to play dance parties and funerals along the road to nowhere.

Three distinct styles form a captivating original mix, greater than the sum of its’ parts, never failing to amaze and delight audiences of all stripes.  Collectively, they have worked with artists including Jack White, Jackson Browne, Jane Siberry, Patty Loveless, Dan Penn, Ray La Montaigne, Thomas Dolby, and Taylor Mac.

Sweet Meg & The Wayfarers in performance

Sweet Megg & The Wayfarers visit OSH for a free outdoor concert with their mix of jazz, blues, and western swing.

“When jazz was born it was exciting and made us laugh and cry. Jazz should be the most relatable of music because it is pure human improvisation being broadcasted in real time. Our goal with this group is to not recreate the past but to explore it and mix it with the future. I want to use our original music to create that theme.” – Sweet Megg

Dandy Wellington is a bandleader, entertainer, event producer, and creative consultant, born-and-raised in Harlem, New York. Influenced by the style and skill of classic entertainers of the past but with his feet planted in the present, it’s no surprise that this Tisch grad has made a name for himself across the globe. From producing stylish events all over New York to performances in St. Petersburg, London, and Sydney, Dandy solidifies himself as not only an impeccably dressed man-about-town, but a bonafide man-of-the-world.

He epitomizes the undeniable cool of the Jazz Age, while also bringing a progressive perspective befitting of the ever-changing landscape of our modern lifestyle. His appreciation for the swinging big bands, elegant parties, and beautifully tailored clothing of the 1920’s/30’s, paired with his contemporary edge, make him a certifiable renaissance man and a true modern dandy.

For this event, neighbor Zeke Goulbourne will lead OSH’s Community Baking Day to prepare food for members of Squad 1, our local firehouse located on Union Street between 6th and 7th Avenues. Zeke has traditionally cooked for members of the firehouse in preparation for the annual 5k Tunnel to Tower Run, which was established in honor of Stephen Stiller, a Squad 1 firefighter who perished in 9/11.

We are inviting members of the meet-up to come and cook with Zeke at OSH’s wood fired oven. You can prepare any of your favorite dishes to share with Squad 1 and other first responders for their evening meal in advance of the run on September 29, and, as always, to share with other meet-up members. There will be foil containers available for dishes prepared for the firefighters. A fire engine will come by to pick up the food donation at 4 pm.
