Dress for the weather, bring bug spray, snacks and friends. While the plaza has some chairs and tables, camping chairs are recommended.

This Summer we will show films from studio Ghibli, Spirited Away and My Neighbor Totoro, both directed by legendary animator, Hayao Miyazaki. Themes of bravery, friendship, and kindness are set against backdrops of surrealist dreamscapes. Viewers of all ages will be enchanted.

Both films will be presented in dubbed English.

SPIRITED AWAY

July 13th at 8:30

Runtime:
2 hours and 5 minutes

Summary:
A young girl, Chihiro, is moving with her family when they find an enchanted bathhouse ruled by spirits and creatures from another realm. Chihiro must work to save her parents and survive.

Parental Guidelines:
Spirited Away is rated PG for “some scary moments.” From Common Sense Media: “Creepy and frightening at times, with many intense or strange-looking creatures and spirits that threaten the protagonist. Protagonists parents are enchanted and turn into pigs. There are references to smoking and the drinking of sake. In one scene, a dragon trying to protect Chihiro is attacked and returns injured and bleeding from the mouth.”

MY NEIGHBOR TOTORO

July 20th at 8:30

Runtime:
1 hour and 26 minutes

Summary:
Two sisters discover a big furry spirit in their backyard, Totoro. While trying to deliver something to their mother, who is in the hospital, Totoro helps them in a dreamlike adventure.

Parental Guidelines:
My Neighbor Totoro is rated G. From Common Sense Media: “My Neighbor Totoro is a fine pick for the entire family. Although there are slightly creepy “dust sprites” that appear in the house at first, they eventually disappear. The protagonist girls have an ill mother with an unnamed disease, but the moments in the hospital aren’t sad or depressing.”
