Good Coffeehouse @OSH: Stillhouse Serenade

January 8, 2017, 4:00 pm - 6:00 pm

- $10

On Sunday, January 8th, the Good Coffeehouse is proud to present an afternoon of music with Stillhouse Serenade. The band is a collective of passionate and eclectic champions of bluegrass, old time, honky-tonk, traditional, originals, R&B, early blues and country music, which they play with authority and joy. The band features the impressive guitar work and compelling vocals and duets of Dan Weiss and Mary Olive Smith, along with Brooklyn native Trip Henderson’s incredible harmonica artistry. Not-to-be missed on accordion and piano is the amazing Charlie Giordano and rounding out the group is Peter Bitenc who holds down the bottom on the big bass.

About Stillhouse Serenade:

Dan Weiss has been playing the guitar and singing for over 50 years and was a founding member of the ground-breaking contemporary bluegrass band, Tony Trischka & Skyline. Mary Olive Smith brings to the mix an infectious energy and her sweet singing along with her North Carolina roots. When not playing music you’ll find Mary Olive producing award-winning documentaries for Al Gore’s Climate Reality Project, the Whitney Museum of American Art, the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and more. Trip Henderson is one of New York’s premiere harmonica players who performs American folk and vernacular music in all its many forms and has performed and recorded with the likes of Otis Rush, Bruce Springsteen, Sonny Burgess, John Sebastian, The Sun Records Rhythm Section (the band of the King himself), and Bo Diddley. Although Charlie Giordano is primarily known as the newest member of Bruce Springsteen’s E Street Band as keyboardist and organist, he also recorded with the Springsteen’s Sessions Band on the 2006 album We Shall Overcome: The Seeger Sessions playing both keys and accordion. You may also recognize him from playing live with such acts as Hall & Oates and Joe Cocker, in the 1980’s was a member of Pat Benatar’s regular backing band, playing on five of her albums. Peter Bitenc has been playing bass for years around the NYC area with many top acoustic and bluegrass bands.
