Good Coffeehouse @ OSH – Andy’s Ramble Bluegrass Quartet

Join us for our first official Coffeehouse of the year, with the ever-amazing Andy Statman and his ramblin’ friends.  Tickets $10 at the door!

Andy Statman is universally recognized as one of the world’s foremost mandolin virtuoso’s. He began initially as a bluegrass performer and played in the iconic group, Breakfast Special, in his early years. A short time later his musical journey took him to the world of Klezmer music and he developed similar virtuosic facility on the clarinet. He has toured extensively all over the world in the past 35 years with his trio, playing Klezmer and Bluegrass music. He has recorded over a dozen albums. (His website is www.andystatman.org)

In Andy’s Ramble, Andy is teaming up with his friends since childhood:

Gene Yellin, guitar, a 40 year veteran of the New York bluegrass scene. Gene has played with Hazel Dickens, Breakfast Special (Kenny Kosek, Andy Statman, etc), Yellin Grass (with his bluegrass banjo playing brother, Bob), Eastbound Freight and American Flyer (with Ben Freed). He has recorded with Hazel Dickens and Gene Lowinger. He is critically recognized as one of the best bluegrass singers to come out of the New York area.

Marc Horowitz, banjo, is a nationally recognized banjo virtuoso in both Scruggs and Clawhammer styles. He won his first banjo contest at the Philadelphia Folk Festival in 1966. He has recorded or toured with Doc Watson, Steve Goodman, Tom Paxton, Hall & Oates, Judy Collins and others. His former banjo students include Bela Fleck. He was the catalyst in forming his first bluegrass band (in 1965) which included Andy and Gene.

They are joined by:

Tim Kiah bass and vocals. Tim is from Newton, Mass. In the past 10 years he has established himself in the New York bluegrass, jazz and classical scenes and has amassed a large resume of musical accomplishments.
