Overview
For Which it Stands is a contemporary art exhibition at the Old Stone House & Washington Park (OSH) offering a fresh take on the flags of the American Revolution and today, including the contradictions inherent in their symbolism. Select artists reinterpret flags associated with OSH’s history as the site of the 1776 Battle of Brooklyn, to consider how their values are being upheld today. Others envision bold new flags for contemporary local and global communities.

As a reconstructed Dutch colonial farmhouse with a permanent exhibition and programming dedicated to the American Revolution, OSH provides a unique backdrop for both original artist-designed flags (displayed outdoors and indoors) and related work in all media exploring how flags can simultaneously stand for uniqueness, unification, preservation, pride and protest.

Corresponding community events leading up to and during the show will engage the general public in creating flags relevant to our lives today. Stay tuned for a full event calendar!

Funding for For Which it Stands  is made possible, in part, by the Shelley & Donald Rubin Foundation.
