PERFORMANCE AS HEALING – Mindfulness and Movement Workshop
Saturday, June 16, 1-3pm

FREE – PLEASE RSVP BY CLICKING HERE

Upstairs at the Old Stone House

Over the course of this two-hour workshop, we will explore ideas of self, family, home, and community through guided meditation, a series of games, theater exercises, and art therapy practices. The goal of the workshop is to help us gain a greater awareness of our bodies, minds, and relationships with others, offering tools to use in our own lives. Participation is required so please come prepared to move, speak, interact, challenge yourself, and have fun!

This workshop is presented in conjunction with the contemporary art exhibition “Home Front,” on view at the Old Stone House & Washington Park through June 24. It features the work of Maya Kaminishi Jeffereis and five other women artists exploring the theme of home as a place of both personal and communal healing. Participants will receive a brief introduction to the show by curator Katherine Gressel.

Artist Bio
Maya Kaminishi Jeffereis is a Brooklyn based artist whose work focuses on countering dominant historical narratives through video, performance, and socially engaged art. Her work is currently on view at the Old Stone House & Washington Park, Brooklyn and recently has been shown at the NARS Foundation, Brooklyn (2018); Chashama, Brooklyn (2018); and Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden, Washington D.C. (2017).

Therapist Bio
Rebecca Eyre, MA is a licensed psychologist who practiced therapy in Seattle for five years before relocating to New York City in 2017. Her clinical focus has always been on the body, specifically the physiology of emotion and memory. Having led hundreds of therapeutic groups focused on mind-body connections, she is intrigued to translate those ideas into a performance art context with her lifelong friend Maya.

Funding for “Home Front” and this workshop has been made possible, in part, by The Shelley & Donald Rubin Foundation.
