Tastings @ OSH: Rum & Revolution

March 23, 2018, 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm

- $45

Join food and drink historian Tonya Hopkins for a great evening sampling 5 of today’s top sipping rums, nibbling Caribbean-style snacks and some taking in some engaging history!

Drawing on West African traditions, enslaved people in the Caribbean integrated rum into resistance efforts during the Age of Revolution. The social and spiritual meanings of alcohol were modified and revived on the sugar estates, and rum-based oath drinks cemented alliances, so rum also offers a  view into the revolutionary uprisings that accelerated the emancipation of enslaved peoples throughout the Atlantic world.

$45 tickets on sale now at Brown Paper Tickets

American food & drinks scholar/writer/raconteur Tonya Hopkins is the great granddaughter of a Prohibition Era speakeasy “entrepreneur” and a mixology maven who’s worked in many aspects of the wine and spirits industry for nearly two decades.
